1. Description
The Blog Article Explainer Video provides a visual summary of a blog post, breaking down key concepts and takeaways. It serves to engage viewers who may prefer video content over reading, making complex topics more accessible and digestible.
2. Purpose and goals
Objective #1: Increase engagement with existing blog content by offering a more visual way to consume information. Objective #2: Increase traffic to the blog by enticing viewers to read the full article, improve SEO through video content, and reach a wider audience, including those who may not typically engage with written content.
3. Best practices
Concise Summary: Focus on summarising the main points of the blog post in an engaging manner without oversimplifying. Visuals and Graphics: Use graphics, animations, and text overlays to illustrate points and keep the viewer engaged. Make sure you open with a strong hook. Clear Structure: Follow a logical flow that mirrors the blog post, making it easy for viewers to follow along. Call to Action: Encourage viewers to read the blog article for more in-depth information and provide links or descriptions for easy access. Length: Keep it brief—typically 1-3 minutes to maintain attention while delivering key insights. Although, if you're posting this to YouTube, 5-10 minutes is a better length.
4. Target audience
Current Blog Readers: Viewers who already engage with the blog may appreciate the video format for quick insights. New Visitors: Attract potential readers who discover the video first, sparking interest in the blog topic. Content Consumers: Individuals who prefer video content, including those who are busy or have short attention spans.
5. How to distribute
Blog Page: Embed the video on the article page to give the consumer multiple ways to consume the information but also for SEO purposes. Social: Share the full video as well as smaller snippets from the video on social (both organically and paid). Email Newsletters: Include in email campaigns to highlight new blog posts and encourage clicks. YouTube Channel: Create a dedicated playlist for the blog explainer videos and make sure you the video is SEO optimised with a strong thumbnail (see Paddle example).
